Mission Statement
Demologue is a web-based international network for democracy activists. It aims to increase communication and skills transfer between democracy activists in different nations in order to speed the process of citizen-led democratization around the world. The network is a non-hierarchical organization, and the content of the site is determined by the needs and interests of its members. Demologue is independent. It is not funded by any government or government agency.
The guiding principle of Demologue is that governments of all nations should be democratic in that the actions and policies of those governments should be determined by the nations' citizens. A corollary of this assumption is that legitimate democracy cannot be imposed on the citizens of a nation by force. A nation' political system must be derived from the words and actions of the people of that nation.
Beyond these guiding principles, Demologue does not support or assert any specific model for democracy. Because each nation has a unique culture and history, each nation's self-chosen political system will be unique. Native democracy activists, for whom Demologue was created, are the agents of this process of political creation.
